Petals in the Grass

If there's someone
For everyone
Then how come
There's no one
To be my only one
When one is all I need?

I'm skipping stones
All alone
The telephone's
A monotone
So I sing into a megaphone
Tear my heart from my sleeve

All these petals in the grass
Can't answer the question that I asked
Does she love me? Does she love me not?
If she doesn't love me, then what else have I got?
It used to be a daisy, I'm going crazy
Somebody save me before I stop

When I say hi
To passersby
I wonder why
They seem to try
To never look me in the eye
I think it's kind of strange

Does it help
The loneliness?
We're all a mess
Life's complex
Expect ourselves to be the best
Without having to change

All these petals in the grass
Can't answer the question that I asked
Does she love me? Does she love me not?
If she doesn't love me, then what else have I got?
It used to be a daisy, I'm going crazy
Somebody save me before I stop

These walk-on parts
With shopping carts
Broken hearts
And question marks
While in the dark
The circling sharks
Smell blood in the water

These cutout scenes
From magazines
And plasticine
Daily routines
Of smart machines
And pixel dreams
Just fantasy fodder

All these petals in the grass
Can't answer the question that I asked
Does she love me? Does she love me not?
If she doesn't love me, then what else have I got?
It used to be a daisy, I'm going crazy
Somebody save me before I stop
