Fever Dream

Sleepwalking home
Staring at your phone
Take a breath and don’t forget
That everyone’s alone
We’ve got no place to go
Yeah, we’ve been here before
Praying at the store
To be free does not come cheap
You say as you lock the door
Always staying tuned for more
But this fever dream’s
Not what it seems
The sweat stings your eyes
Can’t you see?
It’s temporary
All the things that consume our lives
Work away the day
For the debts we have to pay
There are mouths to feed and things we need
We’re just trying to get by
We’re all dying to survive
Sell ourselves again
Just so we can pretend
To control our fate, it’s not too late
But we can’t go back, my friend
We just go forward to the end
But this fever dream’s
Not what it seems
The sweat stings your eyes
Can’t you see?
It’s temporary
How these things consume our lives
So give it all away
It’s all worthless anyway
All this strife in modern life
Are we running just to lose
In our sweatshop leather shoes
Yeah, we’re getting nowhere
But I can tell you don’t care
Quite content to circumvent
And undermine democracy
With endless hypocrisy
But this fever dream’s
Not what it seems
The sweat stings your eyes
Can’t you see?
It’s temporary
How these things consume our lives!
Yeah, we’ve been here before
Praying at the store
To be free does not come cheap
They say as they lock the door
Are we staying tuned for more?
