Imperfect Creatures

We were perfect when we started, so pure and innocent
Like a baby's eyes first taking in the light
Of the pain and beauty in this world, we were ignorant
But we learned and lived and loved and gained our sight
Do you remember how you saw as a child?
We laughed at things we didn't understand
We were animals unlearning to be wild
We were young, dumb and reckless with our futures in our hands
And so much wasted time
Spinning out at the starting line
But every moment of our lives has led us here
We are the products of our drive, our hopes and fears
We are imperfect creatures doing what we can
And I'd do it all again with you
We went out into the world to find our place
We were looking for something new to say
Something to recognize in an unfamiliar face
And something to look forward to today
Have we settled for settling down?
Finding meaning in the static routines
But there's nothing to do in this town
And no one seems to know what I mean
There's just so much wasted time
Trying to turn a dollar on a dime
But every moment of our lives has led us here
We are the products of our drive, our hopes and fears
We are imperfect creatures doing what we can
And I'd do it all again with you
We are perfect for who we are and who we hope to be
You say, "People never change, they only grow"
Someday we'll go far, and then you will see
Our fate was never ours to control
If you always follow your heart
There is nothing to regret
And if we go back to the start
I hope that we won't forget
All this otherwise wasted time
That was never really mine
But every moment of our lives has led us here
We are the products of our drive, our hopes and fears
We are imperfect creatures doing what we can
And I'd do it all again with you
Yeah, I'd do it all again with you...
